Going down with a fight

Well, well. What do we have here? It appears that the Texas Democrats have grown a spine.

This tactic, stolen from the playbook of the 1979 Killer Bees, has evinced an expected amount of Republican vitriol, doubly so now that most of the crafty "Chicken Ds" have been found across the border -- in Ardmore, Oklahoma. They only have to wait until after Thursday to effectively break the quorum.

If nothing else, it's a great political maneuver and puts the Republicans against the wall. The Republicans, who were so close to finishing their first session with full control of the rudder of State, held up by a group with far more solidarity than their opposition counted on. What I see is Democrats playing hardball and hopefully making a clutch play -- preventing the complete poltical gerrymandering of Austin. If it ends the careers of a few of the Democrats -- and I'm not wholly convinced it will -- it's a spectacular way for them to go out.
