Now THIS is a bass!

You ever see cartoons about hillbilly musicians where one of the guys seems to be playing an inverted washtub with a single string connected to a pole sticking out of the tub?

Well, I have, and I always thought that such "washtub basses" were merely flights of fancy. Turns out I may have been wrong.

I smell a project coming on ...

Warren speaks

Just because you're rich doesn't mean you're greedy. Warren Buffett seems to be the embodiment of this. Consider his recent statements about the tax plan being foisted on the American people by the Bush Admin.

When you listen to tax-cut rhetoric, remember that giving one class of taxpayer a "break" requires -- now or down the line -- that an equivalent burden be imposed on other parties. In other words, if I get a break, someone else pays. Government can't deliver a free lunch to the country as a whole. It can, however, determine who pays for lunch. And last week the Senate handed the bill to the wrong party.

Trust the Government

Remember when Republicans could be counted on to tell us that we should never, ever, EVER trust the government?

I guess what they really meant to say was never, ever, EVER trust a government with Democrats in charge.

Hesiod provides links to stories about the "misapplication" of the Patriot Act. Follow the link to get the ugly details. Suffice it to say that a goodly number of detainees under the P.A. aren't what you'd expect to find in a random sample of terrorists.

What really gets me about this whole thing is that, had Gore won office and gone on to propose a Patriot Act in the wake of 9/11/2001, the Republicans would be screaming bloody murder and calling for Gore's impeachment on the grounds of subverting the consitution.

C'mon, you know it's true.
